A leading healthcare provider in Edmonton is seeking an Operating Room Technician (ORT) to provide exceptional patient care in a multidisciplinary environment. The ORT will focus on gynecological and obstetrical procedures, utilizing advanced surgical techniques and ensuring safe practices in the Operating Room. Candidates should be licensed, possess strong problem-solving skills, and have relevant OR experience to thrive in this dynamic role.
Located in the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, Unit 4 West Women’s Operating Room and Recovery Room provides primarily gynecological and obstetrical services, including elective and emergency procedures. The Operating Room Technician (ORT) provides care for a diverse patient population, including highly acute patients. The primary focus is on gynecologic procedures such as gyne-oncology (cancer), uro-gynecology, general gynecology, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, gender-affirming surgery, fertility, and obstetrics, along with occasional general surgery and urology services.
As a multidisciplinary team member, the experienced ORT will provide peri-operative patient care in accordance with CLPNA practice standards. The incumbent will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective, and efficient care in both scrub and circulating roles as part of the surgical team. The ORT is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care during the peri-operative patient experience, working with patients throughout their stay in the surgical suite.
The role requires a professional, positive attitude, excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills when performing scrubbing and circulating duties. The ORT should contribute to quality initiatives and promote a professional work environment at all times.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional healthcare team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills. Guided by your education, experience, and AHS policies, you will provide safe, quality, patient- and family-centered care, reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program, active or eligible registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA), and current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Certification as an Operating Room Technician (ORT), current registration with CLPNA, 3-5 years of current OR experience, knowledge of advanced minimally invasive surgery (MIS), ability to collaborate within an integrated team, problem-solving skills with critical thinking, effective communication skills, and physical ability to perform tasks such as transferring patients and moving supplies, including lifting over 40-50 lbs. Recent or current gynecological OR experience, experience with robotic surgery, laser certification, and experience assisting with surgical procedures using a CO2 laser, or experience as an OR Team Lead.
