SUMMARY :

  • Responsible for assessing, developing, and enhancing new and existing technologies used to support the efficient operations of our client’s distribution grid. This includes evaluating and supporting the development of new technology, methodologies, and related business processes to enhance reliability, durability, and flexibility of the grid, maximizing return on investment of distribution assets. The role requires leveraging relationships within the Chief Information Technology and the Chief Electricity Distribution divisions to execute projects successfully. It supports functions such as project management, planning, and budgeting within the grid technology section.
  • This role assists in developing advanced utility applications and supporting infrastructure used to control, monitor, and analyze the distribution grid. It emphasizes understanding the daily operation of distribution grids and the role of new technology, contributing to the strategic deployment of smart grid technology and future customer needs. The role also involves developing and updating standards and processes related to materials, equipment, and technology design for the electric distribution system.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :

The essential responsibilities of the job include :

  • Identify and develop solutions to enhance the use of Grid Technology systems and applications.
  • Provide technical support to Grid Technology Support, stations, and field staff.
  • Evaluate and manage new Grid Technology projects.
  • Create analysis workflows and business processes for customer departments.
  • Assist in setting the strategic direction for Grid Technology systems and applications.
  • Participate in developing the client’s smart grid roadmap.
  • Support the development and use of data analytics to improve grid efficiency and extend distribution asset life.
  • Collaborate with other technology teams to improve system functionality, availability, and security.
  • Prepare project budget briefs and participate in overall planning.
  • Contribute to system planning and standards development for distribution and technology.
  • Evaluate new technology, software, and equipment.
  • Assist in managing and coordinating special projects.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as required.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE :

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering from an accredited university (Electrical Engineering preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), licensed or eligible for licensing in Ontario.
  • Strong computer skills; proficient in office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably G Suite.
  • 4-8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Some vacancies may require IT-oriented candidates with experience in applications engineering, on-premise systems used in Operations Technology, including solution architecture, DevOps, automation, and site reliability engineering.

Assets :

  • Project Management or PMP Certification.
  • Experience with advanced grid applications (SCADA, ADMS, OMS, GIS).
  • Experience in electric utility engineering environments.
  • Data or manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of Fibre Optic communications technology, including planning and management.
  • Knowledge of wireless communications technology (LTE, fixed point-to-point, point-to-multipoint).

Language Skills :

  • English essential, both oral and written; bilingual (French/English) considered an asset.
