The selected candidates are required to complete a Security Clearance. This is a condition of employment.

SUMMARY :

  • Responsible for assessing, developing, and enhancing new and existing technologies used to support the efficient operations of our client’s distribution grid. This includes evaluating and supporting the development of new technology, methodologies, and related business processes to enhance reliability, durability, and flexibility of the grid, maximizing the return on investment of distribution assets. The role involves leveraging relationships within the Chief Information Technology and the Chief Electricity Distribution divisions to execute projects effectively. It also supports functions such as project management, planning, and budgeting within the grid technology section.
  • This role assists in developing advanced utility applications and infrastructure for controlling, monitoring, and analyzing the distribution grid. It emphasizes understanding the daily operation of distribution grids and the role of new technology, influencing the strategic deployment of smart grid technologies to meet future customer needs. The role also supports the development and updating of standards and processes related to materials, equipment, and design for the electric distribution system.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :

The essential responsibilities include :

  • Identify and develop solutions to enhance Grid Technology systems and applications.
  • Provide technical support to Grid Technology Support teams, stations, and field staff.
  • Evaluate and manage new Grid Technology projects.
  • Create analysis workflows and business processes for customer departments.
  • Assist in setting strategic direction for Grid Technology systems and applications.
  • Participate in developing the client’s smart grid roadmap.
  • Support data analytics initiatives to improve grid efficiency and extend distribution asset lifespan.
  • Collaborate with other technology teams to enhance system functionality, availability, and security.
  • Prepare project budget briefs and contribute to overall budget and business planning.
  • Provide input into system planning and technology standards.
  • Evaluate new technology, software, and equipment.
  • Assist in managing and coordinating the completion of special projects.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as required.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE :

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering from an accredited university (Electrical Engineering preferred).
  • Professional Engineer license or eligibility for licensing in Ontario (P.Eng.).
  • Strong computer skills; proficient in office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably G Suite.
  • 4-8+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Some vacancies require IT-oriented candidates with applications engineering experience, including experience with on-premise systems used in Operations Technology and Applications, such as solution architects, devops, automation, or site reliability engineering.

Assets :

  • Project Management and/or PMP Certification.
  • Experience with advanced grid applications (SCADA, ADMS, OMS, GIS).
  • Experience in an electric utility engineering environment.
  • Data or manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of Fibre Optic communications technology (planning and management).
  • Knowledge of wireless communications technology (LTE, fixed point-to-point, point-to-multipoint).

Language : English essential; bilingual in French/English considered an asset.
