Our foundational work emphasizes the protection, promotion, and practice of shíshálh culture, language, and laws within our swiya.

Position Overview

The One-to-One Child Support Worker position in the Summer Fun program offers an opportunity to support Nation children (ages 5-11) by providing positive mentorship and assistance to access and participate in the program. The role involves a dedicated one-to-one ratio, focusing on the child's needs, abilities, and goals. Children supported are identified through their collaborative support team, involving caregivers, Education, and CMS support personnel. You will work under the supervision of the Wellness Centre Manager, Wellness Center Program Supervisor, and the Child Wellness Coordinator, among others.

The position runs from June 23, 2025, to August 29, 2025, with hours from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

Candidate Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support to children on a one-to-one basis during the Summer Fun program.
  • Utilize and update the child's Behaviour Support Plan to tailor support to their needs, abilities, and goals.
  • Collaborate with Wellness Centre and Education staff to deliver activities and provide necessary adaptations.
  • Ensure the child's safety during activities and offer alternative supported activities as needed.
  • Act as a caring mentor, listening to the child's needs, supporting activity completion, and following safety protocols.
  • Communicate regularly with the Wellness Centre and Education teams regarding feedback, concerns, or support requests.
  • Attend team meetings and relevant training sessions.
  • Perform additional tasks within the scope of the position.
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
  • Minimum age of 18 years at the time of application.
  • Willingness and ability to pass a criminal record check.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health concerns, or behaviors.
  • Understanding of the needs and barriers faced by individuals with various abilities.
  • First Aid Certification.
  • Positive Behaviour Management Training (training to be provided).
  • Experience working with children in recreation or educational settings is an asset.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with occasional extended hours for off-coast trips.
