Job summary

Clean Harbors in Courtenay, BC is seeking an InSite Hazardous Waste Technician to support HHW programs at Cambell River and Cumberland Waste Management Centers. You will help with packaging and consolidating waste, and handle hazardous materials on customer sites.

Requirements include a valid Class 5 license, ability to work outdoors in all weather, forklift operation, and safety certifications such as TDG, WHMIS and First Aid. CDL is a strong asset; drivers welcome.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 5 license with clean driving record.
• Experience in environmental services/household hazardous waste preferred.
• Experience in labor-intensive roles and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Forklift certification preferred; safety certifications TDG, WHMIS and First Aid preferred.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable using Windows-based applications and learning new systems.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• On-site waste technician for two client sites.
• Maintain health and safety as a top priority by following safe work practices and policies.
• Properly package waste to maximize efficiency and regulatory compliance.
• Inspect drums for container integrity and regulatory compliance.
• Operate forklift safely.
• Collect, identify, segregate, and pack HHW items from both customer sites.
• Safely load and unload waste hauling vehicles.
• Conduct waste stream sampling and profiling as needed.
• Use Class 5 license to operate units safely.
• May be assigned additional duties based on business needs.
