Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or alternative suitable education.
• Experience in construction is an asset.
• Basic reading of blueprints and building codes recommended.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements.
• Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools.
• Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials.
• Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints/sketches/specifications.
• Operate heavy equipment when required.
• Measure lumber to ensure specified thickness, length and width.
• Ensure that safety standards and departmental policies are met.
• Assist in framing houses, erecting walls and building roofs.
