Job summary

Oxford Learning New Westminster is hiring an on-call math & science tutor for after-school and evening sessions in New Westminster, BC. This in-person, part-time role requires commuting to the New Westminster location and the ability to work with up to three students at a time.

You will follow Oxford Learning’s proprietary methods, with pre-planned lessons, and complete post-lesson notes and daily student updates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Fourth-year student with tutoring experience may be considered.
  • Teaching certification is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Teach up to three students at a time at different levels.
  • Conduct lessons in-person; online components were previously available but not part of this role.
  • Follow Oxford Learning methodologies and philosophies.
  • Fill in post-lesson notes and daily student communication updates.
  • Maintain a friendly and professional manner at all times.

Job description

On Call Math & Science Tutor

Part‑time teacher‑tutor position at Oxford Learning New Westminster (New Westminster, British Columbia). Hours are after‑school and evening (3:00 pm–8:00 pm) with occasional Saturday and Sunday shifts. This is an in‑person role; relocation packages are not available.

Employment Details
  • Employment type: Part time
  • Pay: $20.00 to $23.00 per hour
  • Schedule: Evenings, Monday‑Friday, Saturday and Sunday availability
Position Requirements
  • These teacher‑tutors are trained in Oxford Learning’s proprietary philosophy and methods; pre‑planned lessons are provided.
  • Reliable, able to teach up to three students at a time.
  • Must be able to commute to the New Westminster location and work in‑person.
  • Vulnerable sector screening is mandatory.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or similar certification in a relevant field
  • Fourth‑year university students with extensive tutoring experience will be considered
  • Teaching certification is an asset
  • Good knowledge of the current Grades 1‑12 math and science curriculum, particularly senior math (Advanced Functions, algebra, trigonometry, calculus) and science (vectors, physics, chemistry, biology)
Experience
  • Some experience teaching/tutoring math and science at grades 1‑12 (or equivalent)
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills
  • Strong math skills and ability to guide students’ understanding
  • Ability to multitask and balance working with up to three students at a time
