To service and repair oil fired heating systems in all MIFIN owned and operated buildings. To work at the direction of the foreman and with the maintenance program to perform those tradesmen duties listed therein.
Strategic and Operational Planning
- Identifies inefficient systems and recommends replacement or upgrading.
- Assist supervisors as requested to ensure professional and effective working environment.
- Provide professional advice and assistance on projects as required.
Program and Service Delivery Management
- Maintains oil-burners to ensure a safe and efficient operation by:
- Cleaning and overhauling all oil-burner related equipment (fuel pumps, blowers, vents, duct work, etc.) on a regular basis
- Testing all overhauled and re-built oil-burners to ensure units are safe and in good working order
- Installing new equipment when required
- Inspects all oil-fired and solid fuel heating systems to ensure satisfactory operation by:
- Conducting regular checks of all oil-burners
- Diagnosing faults in oil burners and identifying repairs required to correct deficiencies completing inspection reports
- Identifies deficiencies and repairs required for chimneys and fireboxes
- Maintains domestic and industrial appliances by:
- Examining and testing appliances to identify deficiencies and determine repairs required
- Repairing appliances and re-building components for re-use
- Testing repaired and re-built units to ensure they are in good working order
Policy, Procedure, Legislation and Regulations
- Identify unsafe and hazardous conditions.
Human Resource Management
- Supervising and training apprentices and casual staff.
- Assisting other tradesmen and staff in emergency situations.
- Assist other MIFN Housing technical staff at the direction of the supervisors.
- Provide advice to other tradesmen as required.
Other Requirements
- Completes records for all maintenance and repairs by:
- Identifying supplies required and compiling materials lists
- Completing work orders for all work assignments
- Accounts for eight hours of work each day plus any overtime
- Inventory and stock control as required
- Comply with all expectations associated with privacy and confidentiality of records.
- Support the mission, vision, and values of Mushuau Innu First Nation.
- Contribute to the MIFN’s ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as requiredor assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of the Natuashish community, traditions, teachings, culture, protocols, and practices
- Knowledge of the Indian Act and its impact on Indigenous communities
- Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of Northern construction practices
- Knowledge of applicable codes
- Ability to use and work with imperial and metric measure
- Must be reliable
- Must be self-motivated and able to keep busy even when not under constant supervision
- Must be able to deal with the public and other staff in a courteous, professional manner
Experience and Education Requirements
- Certification as a Journeyperson Oil Burner Mechanic
Conditions of Employment
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a clear Criminal Records Check
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Driver’s License and Driver’s Abstract
- Overtime, call outs, travel, and training may be required to carry out the responsibilities of this position
