Job description

TRU CLC’s mandate is to provide legal services to low-income clients while offering practical learning opportunities for students from the TRU Faculty of Law. This includes managing case files, community outreach, and public legal education.

Position Overview

The Office Manager reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for the efficient operation of administrative matters at the Clinic. The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, and possesses excellent interpersonal skills.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary is $49,000, which may be reduced if the candidate opts for a benefit package and RRSP matching. The Office Manager is entitled to 30 vacation days annually.

TRU CLC is operated by the TRU Legal Clinic Society, an independent non-profit, and employees are not TRU employees.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Providing administrative assistance to the Executive Director and supervising lawyers as needed.
  2. Screening phone calls, assessing client eligibility, and scheduling initial intake interviews.
  3. Maintaining the online file management system.
  4. Recommending policy or procedural changes to improve office efficiency.
  5. Supporting and guiding students on administrative practices.
  6. Collaborating with the Executive Director to monitor finances and order supplies.
Reporting Structure

Reports to the Executive Director, TRU CLC.

Qualifications
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of the Canadian legal system.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma; paralegal or legal assistant qualification preferred.
  • Experience with litigation matters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively.
  • Experience serving low-income clients and persons with disabilities respectfully and sensitively.
  • Diplomacy and discretion with confidential information.
  • Experience with budgeting and financial management.
