Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital seeks an Occupational Therapist to support Rehabilitation Services. The role is a long-assignment, full-time equivalent (75 hours biweekly) for about 12 months, with potential weekend work and travel to other sites in Nova Scotia.

The OT will assess, treat, educate and collaborate with clients, families and the health team, delivering individualized plans across hospital, home and community settings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Occupational Therapy.
  • Licensure with the provincial regulatory body, Nova Scotia Occupational Therapy Regulator, is mandatory.
  • BLS-C.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with ability to educate patients and families.
  • Commitment to respectful, safe practice and cultural awareness.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong planning and supervision skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing service needs.
  • Ability to work solo or with a team in all service settings.
  • French language skills are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate, restore and/or maintain patient function in self-care, productivity and leisure.
  • Collaborate with clients, families and caregivers within hospital, home and community.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and prioritise daily issues.
  • Contribute to clinical education of OT students and related disciplines.

About the Opportunity

The Occupational Therapist works under the supervision of the Manager. The Occupational Therapist (OT) works in collaboration with the client, caregivers and family to facilitate, restore and/or maintain the patient/clients optimal level of function in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure. The OT provides consultation, assessment, treatment, evaluation and follow-up while working within the hospital, the client's home and/or their community. The OT, in collaboration with the client, establishes individualized treatment plans and goals independently manage a busy caseload and use clinical judgement and decision-making skills to prioritize issues on a daily basis. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are required. The OT provides education and support to clients, families and caregivers. The OT functions as both a member of an occupational therapy clinical team and a multidisciplinary hospital and/or community healthcare team. The OT contributes to the clinical education of OT students and related health disciplines and for supervision of OT Assistants.

About You

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate education programs and interact positively with patients/clients, families, other health care providers and staff
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and organizational health
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, while effectively planning, organizing, and supervising
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to the changing needs of the service and the program/facility
  • Must be able to work alone or with team members in all service settings
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
  • Long assignment full-time position; 75 hours biweekly

  • May be required to work weekends
  • Travel to other sites is required. Valid Nova Scotia driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
Compensation and Benefits

$38.43 - $50.99 hourly
