Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking an Occupational Therapist II at High Prairie Health Complex to coordinate occupational therapy services, supervise students and staff, and provide clinical leadership within an interdisciplinary team. You will make day-to-day decisions on patient care, guide complex cases, ensure evidence-based practice, and participate in program development and staffing planning.

This role emphasizes collaboration, education, and advocacy for optimal client outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area.
  • Provide supervision of students and team members as assigned.
  • Work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team with leadership to other healthcare professionals.
  • Make day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs for assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up.
  • Advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care as per standards.
  • Ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and aligned with Alberta regulations and AHS policies.
  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of the assigned service area and monitor care delivery.
  • Identify service needs, assist with caseload management, complete chart audits and provide feedback to staff.
  • Participate in program development and operational planning; represent the department on committees.
  • Make staffing, workflow and caseload priority decisions in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers.
  • Carry out roles as a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate as assigned.

Education

Job description

In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence‑based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day‑to‑day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow‑up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.
