Job summary

Alberta Health Services in Grande Prairie is seeking an Occupational Therapist II to coordinate occupational therapy within the Home Care program. You will supervise students and team members and work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team to deliver safe, evidence-based care.

Responsibilities include day-to-day operations, staffing decisions, chart audits, and program development. A vehicle is required for travel, and ACOT registration is mandatory or eligible.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills required; independent judgment and initiative for clinical decisions.

Our dynamic team serves clients in their own homes, lodges, Designated Supportive Living space, senior’s apartments and Long Term Care. There is a very strong focus on the multi-disciplinary and collaborative process including and focused on the patient. We have Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech Language Pathology, Recreation Therapy and Social Work on our Allied Health team working in close collaboration with our nursing teams.In addition to excellent wages and benefits, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. This position may qualify for a recruitment incentive of up to $60,000, based on the length of their Return for Service. Description:

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines.You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Required Qualifications:

Additional Required Qualifications:

Excellent communication skills and collaborative skills required. Must be able to use considerable independent judgment and initiative to decide whether treatment requested is suitable. Computer skills including MS Office, and experience with electronic charting is essential. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. Please Note: This position requires a vehicle for business use. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Alberta Aides to Daily Living (AADL) Authorizer status preferred.
