Job summary

Powell River Educational Services Society is seeking a licensed Occupational Therapist to join the qathet Complex Care Housing team in Powell River. You will assess and support clients with mental health, substance use, and physical challenges, adapting environments and promoting participation in daily activities.

This full-time position requires BC registration with COTBC, a degree in OT, and the ability to work within interdisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized program.
• Full registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC).
• Minimum two years of related experience.
• Trauma-informed care and harm-reduction experience preferred.
• Valid BC driver's license and access to a vehicle may be required.
• Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check clearance.

Responsibilities

• The Occupational Therapist collaborates within the qathet Complex Care Housing team to help clients engage in daily activities.
• The role supports mental health, substance use, and physical challenges by assessing abilities and adapting environments.
• Reports to the Community Health Services Manager.
• Work site: Complex Care Housing (New Roots Clinic).

Salary Or Wage: $43.83 to $54.53 per hour

• Degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized program

Working Condition and Physical Requirements

• Based within housing and community health settings, including in-office and outreach environments.
• May work with individuals experiencing complex trauma, substance use, or behavioural challenges; requires calm and compassionate responses.
• Involves moderate physical activity including walking, sitting, and occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
• Requires flexibility to attend community meetings or client sessions outside standard hours.

List of Duties

• The Occupational Therapist works collaboratively within the multidisciplinary qathet Complex Care Housing (CCH) team to assist clients in developing the skills, confidence, and capacity to engage meaningfully in daily life activities.
• The role supports individuals with mental health, substance use, and physical challenges by assessing functional abilities, adapting environments, and guiding clients toward improved participation, independence, and quality of life.
