Job summary

Chinook School Division is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join the K-12 school system. The role involves collaborative work with Speech Language Pathologists, Educational Psychologists and Student Services Coordinators to provide comprehensive services.

The successful candidate will meet the qualifications, hold a Master''s degree in Occupational Therapy, and be eligible for Saskatchewan registration. A driver''s license and willingness to travel are required.

Responsibilities

• Performs assessments of students for education-related function (hand use, oral motor, visual-motor, seating, organization, sensory processing, self-care).
• Participates in collaborative program planning with colleagues.
• Consults with teachers, educational assistants, counsellors and parents.
• Adapts classroom environments and learning materials to support participation.
• Provides recommendations for assistive technology and equipment.
• Demonstrates and trains staff to implement recommendations.
• Monitors implementation and provides feedback to school personnel, students and family.
• Provides in-service for school personnel with Student Services team.
• Supports transition planning from secondary to adult life.
• Contributes to staff development and program evaluation.

The Occupational Therapist will work in collaboration with other disciplines (Speech Language Pathologists, Educational Psychologists and Student Services Coordinators) to provide comprehensive team services. This position will be based within the K to 12 school system. The successful candidate will have a commitment to the vision, mission, principles and goals of the Chinook School Division.

D ut ie s (may include but are not limited to):

• Provides assessment of student's ability to function in the educational environment. This may include assessment of skills and issues related to hand function, oral motor function, visual motor and perceptual skills, seating and positioning, organizational skills, sensory awareness and processing, self-care and prevocational/vocational skills
• Participates in collaborative program planning
• Consults with classroom teachers, educational assistants, counsellors and parents
• Works with classroom teachers to adapt the classroom environment and/or learning materials to facilitate successful participation
• Provides recommendations for assistive technology and equipment
• Provides demonstrations and training for teachers, educational assistants and parents to implement recommendations
• Monitors implementation of recommendations and provides feedback to school personnel, students and family
• Provides in-service for school personnel on specifics, and whenever possible, with other members of the Student Services professional
• Assist with transition planning, with particular emphasis on transition from secondary into adult life
• Provide staff development and training and assist with program monitoring and evaluation.
