Job summary

New Directions for Children, Youth, Adults, and Families is seeking an Occupational Therapist to assess, consult, and intervene within our MACC services for children, youth, and families. The role focuses on sensory assessments, staff training, and group interventions, with a strong emphasis on trauma-informed practice and family-centered care.

The position offers hybrid work options and collaborative, multidisciplinary teamwork.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $68,089.66 To $84,416.33 Annually

The Multidisciplinary Assessment and Consultation Centre (MACC) is part of the many services offered by New Directions. We are currently seeking an Occupational Therapist to provide assessment, consultation, and intervention with individuals and families, care providers and staff, groups, training and recommendations to a number of New Directions' programs for children, youth and adults.

The primary focus of this position will be working with our children and youth programs. This could include sensory assessments, recommendations for interventions, training for staff and/or care providers, and group intervention (i.e., social skills groups for children and adults).

The successful candidate will bring the following:

• Master’s degree in Occupation Therapy (e.g., MOT).
• Certified to practice within their discipline within the Province of Manitoba. Accredited by a Provincial licensing body associated with the clinical discipline and in good standing. (e.g., College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba)
• Experience with care plan development, where the client's well-being is the focus, and an understanding of person-centered frameworks.
• Clinical experience working with families, adolescents, adults and children with a trauma-informed understanding of behaviours as adaptive coping responses and neurobiological patterns
• An awareness of cross-cultural factors that impact the healing/recovery process, including inter-generational trauma and the impact of colonization on Indigenous and settler communities.
• Experience working with clients involved with multiple systems.
• Willingness to engage in community partnerships.
• Demonstrated knowledge of disabilities and skills to work with families and children with neurodiversity is an asset.
• Demonstrated knowledge of various issues that may impact the individuals we support. This could include (but is not limited to) Intellectual Disabilities, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, sensory needs, assessment of life skills and independence, family systems, and child development and is able to apply this knowledge with systemic conceptualization and applicable recommendations for support.
• Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills and experience with professional communication with funding agencies.
• Fluency in American Sign Language is considered an asset.
• Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle is considered an asset.

The salary range for this 70-hour bi-weekly position is $37.41 to $46.38 per hour, (equivalent to $68,089 - $84,416 per annum) dependent upon education and/or experience. A full benefits package (which includes Health, Dental, and Long-Term Disability Benefits)is provided to all full-time, regular employees.
