Job summary

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking an Occupational Health and Safety Officer to implement the Internal Responsibility System across diverse workplaces and to advise employers, employees, and contractors on duties under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. You will report to the Regional Director and work to raise safety standards province-wide.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma with trade or technical training in OH&S and at least 7 years of related experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with 2-year diploma or 4-year bachelor in Occupational Health & Safety.
• 7 years of related experience after training; ability to work independently and in a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication; capable of explaining legislation clearly.
• Background checks required; CRSP or P.Eng is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Conduct workplace inspections and investigations as assigned by the Regional Director.
• Issue orders, promote compliance and initiate prosecution when required.
