Overview

The Gentilly location is in search of an Occupation Safety and Health / Industrial Hygienist (OSH / IH) to join the team.

Responsibilities
  • Identifying objects, actions, and events: identify information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
  • Evaluating information to determine compliance with standards: use relevant information and judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
  • Analyzing data or information, identifying underlying principles, reasons, or facts by breaking down information into parts.
  • Utilizing risk management principles to problem solve.
  • Reviewing contractor plans and providing meaningful feedback.
  • Interacting with managers and directors to solicit advice and promote implementation strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for
  • Education: College diploma or university degree within an OSH, IH or a combined field from an accredited Canadian or international program, or an extensive set of OSH and IH training and certification across various topics.
  • Possess, or have the ability to possess, minimum professional credentials as CRST and NCSO; CRSP or equivalent designations such as CSP or CMIOSH are additionally preferred. ROHT is also considered.
  • Experience: At least 4-6 years of OSH and IH experience in a role within complex nuclear, research & technology, heavy construction, heavy manufacturing, industrial processing, mining, oil & gas, or other civil or environmental remediation experience. Experience in a radiation safety and/or protection setting is an asset but not required.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Technical and practical OSH and IH knowledge, including competent person and/or train-the-trainer credentials; knowledge of hazardous energy control, hoisting & rigging, ground disturbance, boring/digging/coring, fall protection, excavation and trenching, marine safety, heavy equipment operation, emergency and hazardous material release response, electrical safety, confined space; knowledge of asbestos, silica, WHMIS, noise, heat-stress, PPE; knowledge of air sampling methodologies for particulates, VOCs, and other hazards; practical knowledge in asbestos abatement, confined space entry and air monitoring; knowledge of Canadian provincial and federal OSH legislative requirements and compliance frameworks; Completion of OSH risk registers, hazard assessments, JHA/JSA, and working with behavior based safety programs; familiarity with root-cause analysis tools such as Taproot, ACA, RCA, and other safety tools; ability to maintain and grow safety knowledge with industry best practices and impending legislative changes; understanding of core Human Performance principles.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), with a minimum 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States or the United Kingdom. CNL conducts security screening in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Working Conditions: Physically fit and able to be active (standing, walking) for up to 12 hours a day; able to use stairs, ladders, and egress equipment to enter all site and building areas including confined spaces; able to wear a respirator and PPE as required; extensive walking on uneven terrain in all weather; combination of office-based and field work, including outdoors in inclement weather and temperatures from +30C to -40C; annual overtime may be required; work in radiologically active and non-active environments; potential travel; field work is a cornerstone of this role.
