The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) is responsible for providing direct clinical care, health surveillance, and injury management to support the health, safety, and well-being of all staff. This role includes primary nursing care, assessment and treatment of workplace injuries, conducting health assessments, and participating in health promotion and compliance initiatives aligned with public health regulations.

Here's What You'll Get To Do

  • Provide primary nursing care including first aid, emergency response, and physical assessments for staff who are ill or injured.
  • Deliver crisis intervention and appropriate referrals to internal mental health resources or community support services.
  • Evaluate and manage workplace injuries / illnesses and coordinate early return-to-work and stay-at-work strategies, in compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Conduct employment and periodic health assessments for staff.
  • Perform routine TB surveillance and administer vaccinations for all staff.
  • Conduct phlebotomy for surveillance and communicable disease screening.
  • Provide initial and ongoing respiratory protection screening (e.g., N95 fit testing).
  • Perform risk assessments and initiate response protocols for biological exposures and communicable disease exposures.
  • Conduct active and passive surveillance for reportable diseases, infections, and workplace-related illnesses.
  • Review clinical records, lab results, and health data to advise on required or recommended vaccinations.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret health surveillance data to inform risk mitigation and compliance strategies.
  • Develop and maintain health surveillance systems and databases.
  • Ensure timely documentation and maintenance of accurate, confidential employee health records in accordance with legal and organizational standards.
  • Educate and counsel staff on occupational health risks, health promotion, disease prevention, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with Safety, Human Resources, and department leadership to identify workplace health risks and support safe return-to-work plans.
  • Monitor and respond to data from the Staff Absence Reporting System (¿STARS¿) to inform interventions and track absence trends.
  • Assist with compliance monitoring related to regulatory standards such as Toronto Public Health and Public Health Ontario.

Here's What You'll Need

  • Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Occupational Health Nursing Diploma or Certificate or currently working towards preferred
  • 3-5 years experience in Nursing.
  • Registration in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and experience using Adobe Professional
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

Employment Type : Temporary Contract .6FTE. With the possibility to extend.
