Job summary

Atira Women's Resource Society in Vancouver (Gastown) is seeking an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to ensure a safe, compliant workplace under the Workers Compensation Act and OH&S Regulation.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of OH&S experience, education or CRSP/CSP certification, strong communication, attention to detail, and proficiency with MS Office; you will lead trainings, inspections, incident investigations, and coordinate with stakeholders to promote a culture of safety.

Qualifications

Compensation: $80,000 per annum increasing to $85,000 after completing one year. Atira offers a competitive leave and benefits package after an initial disqualification period.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for an inspired Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to join our Operation department. You will be responsible for ensuring the workplace is safe and healthy and in compliance with the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, as well as ensuring policies and procedures adhere to all current regulations (Employment Standards, Human Rights, etc.) and all contractual obligations. You will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing all aspects of health and safety compliance within our organization. This includes facilitating safety meetings, conducting inspections, providing training, managing incident investigations, and collaborating with various stakeholders to create a safe and healthy work environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of health and safety regulations, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to fostering a culture of safety.

About You:

You believe in and are passionate about Atira’s mission, vision, and values. Ideally, you hold a general knowledge of occupational health and safety as evidenced by education (e.g. OHS diploma), certification (e.g. CRSP/CSP), and/or experience in OH&S (e.g. Formal OH&S experience or active Joint Health Committee member) is a requirement. With at least 3 years of experience in health and safety compliance, you possess a strong understanding of relevant regulations and standards. Your communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are exceptional, facilitating effective collaboration and engagement with stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, coupled with meticulous attention to detail and robust analytical abilities, enables you to navigate complex challenges with precision. You thrive both independently and as part of a cohesive team, ensuring seamless integration and alignment with organizational objectives.

You Have Also Have:

• Requires knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and data base software
• Excellent computer skills, proficient in MS Office Suite & social media tools is required
• Demonstrated ability to interact with co-workers in a friendly, outgoing & respectful manner
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
• Superior attention to detail; ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment
• Knowledge of HRIS systems considered an asset
• A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License is an asset
• Demonstrates the ability to interact with coworkers in a friendly, outgoing and respectful manner
• Requires the ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and policy documents, as well as converse comfortably with co-workers and others
