Job summary

Thales Ottawa is seeking an Obsolescence Specialist to provide Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) engineering and analysis with emphasis on software obsolescence. You will manage dependencies, licensing, and maintenance planning while coordinating artefacts and technical inputs across teams.

Responsibilities include developing artefacts, tracking progress, and delivering monthly client reports. Travel is occasional; schedule is 40 hours per week with a focus on risk management and stakeholder

Qualifications

  • Proficient in excel data management, detailed oriented, systems thinking, licensing methods, and experience with legacy systems.
  • Experience in managing relationships with software vendors and infrastructure software frameworks.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder interfacing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and implement the Obsolescence Management Plan for software application-level obsolescence.
  • Collaborate to identify critical software dependencies and licensing considerations.
  • Create artefacts to track dependencies and obsolescence in a CWE.
  • Coordinate inputs across teams and schedule artefact delivery with stakeholders.
  • Attend risk reviews and report on completion risk and interdependencies.
  • Lead monthly Obsolescence Meetings and track progress of artefact changes.
  • Provide updated documentation to clients upon completion.

Position Summary

Thales has a vacancy for an Obsolescence Specialist who is dedicated to providing Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) engineering and analysis with an emphasis on software application level obsolescence, including logistic support analysis, dependability, maintenance planning, technical documentation, publications and training for obsolescence concerns.

Regulatory Compliance Requirement

This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List and/or the US the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Accountable to the THALES Reliability Manager, the Obsolescence Specialist will;

  • Develop, maintain and implement the Obsolescence Management Plan for software application-level obsolescence concerns.
  • Investigate, collaboratively define, and develop a centralized list of high level software dependencies for a prioritized list of Configuration Items (CIs) documented in the System Breakdown Structure (SBS). High level software dependencies may include, but not limited to versions of Java supported, version of Operating Software (OS) supported, compute resourcing required (RAM, CPU), special drivers required, hardware required (display size, GPU).>
  • Investigate, collaboratively define, and develop a centralized list of high level obsolescence information for a prioritized list of Configuration Items (CIs) documented in the System Breakdown Structure (SBS). Obsolescence Information may include, but not limited to the following, software application version up rev cycles, software application patching cycles, upcoming changes to licensing models, obsolescence waivers.
  • Establish an engineering artefact (Obsolescence Working Group Support Artefact(s)) or series of engineering artefacts that allow for continuous tracking of high level software dependencies, and obsolescence information within a Collaborative Work Environment (CWE), in accordance with stakeholder formatting requirements.
  • Liaise with Authorized Technical Representative to coordinate with all teams to gather their technical inputs for the Obsolescence Working Group Support Artefact(s) and incorporate them into the formatted version for release of that artefact(s).
  • Liaise with Authorized Technical Representative to work with other teams to schedule their inputs and risk manage the timelines of delivery of the Obsolescence Working Group Support Artefact(s).
  • Attend Risk Review Meetings and speak to risk of completion and team interdependency of deliverables in that risk review forum.
  • Implement approved changes to the Obsolescence Working Group Support Artefact(s). Track implementation and progress of artefact work or change resolution. Liaise with Authorized Technical Representative to coordinate with the SMEs associated with the Obsolescence Working Group Support Artefact(s) to validate and review document updates, as well as, determine applicable baselines. Provide the updated documentation to client upon completion. Develop Monthly Progress reports for client.
  • Supervise and report on activities of the team. Host monthly Obsolescence Meetings to provide a program update to the internal/external stakeholders. Use Integrated Logistic Support Analysis methods to develop strategies to identify and mitigate obsolescence
Minimum Qualifications
  • Proficient in excel data management, detailed oriented, systems thinking, in-depth knowledge of application licensing methods, expertise in version control and change management, ability to work with and maintain legacy systems, experience in managing relationships with software vendors, and expertise in infrastructure software frameworks, and their deployment (Java, dot net, virtualization technologies)
  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Technologist Diploma
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience performing ILS activities.
  • Strong computer literacy, with proven experience with Microsoft products especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint essential.
  • Experience interfacing between various internal/external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management.
  • Previous experience working with a defense contract.
  • Experience supporting an operational military asset.
Special Position Requirements

Schedule: 40 hours per week

Physical Environment: Office

Travel: Occasional domestic or international travel may be required, which will include access to government facilities and assets.

Pay Transparency

The anticipated Total Target Compensation (TTC), inclusive of annual salary and bonus eligibility, for this role is $85,000 to 125,000 CAD Annual. The Company reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s status protected by local, provincial, and federal laws.
