Job summary

Recurrent Energy is seeking an O&M Field Technician in Ontario, Canada to perform maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of solar farm equipment. The role requires strong electrical/mechanical aptitude, independent work capability, and safe operation of field duties across projects in our O&M division.

Responsibilities include following maintenance schedules, diagnosing issues, collaborating with contractors, and providing training to operators as needed.

Qualifications

  • 2–5+ years of hands-on field work in renewable energy or similar industries.
  • NABCEP Certification is a plus.
  • Experience reading blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and specifications.

  • Follow maintenance schedules and perform routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Work with maintenance team and contractors to improve system performance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot project systems such as inverters and switchgear.
  • Provide operation, maintenance and troubleshooting training to operators as needed.
  • Adhere to health and safety rules and company policies.
  • Oversee sub-contractors and ensure CMMS work orders are complete.
  • Assist with commissioning and testing of projects.

Job Title: O&M Field Technician (ON, Canada)
Department: Operations & Maintenance
Position Summary:

Recurrent Energy is currently seeking an O&M Field Technician for our Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Division. The O&M Field Technician will be responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of project equipment related to any operational solar farms. The successful candidate will have strong electrical/ mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting techniques, and organizational skills to drive and achieve project uptime and production targets of projects and must be capable of working independently or within a team environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoot daily project system issues to meet uptime goals.
  • Understand hourly production output targets and if there is any danger of not meeting them, execute a plan for correction or elevation of the situation.
  • Follow maintenance schedules and perform routine maintenance (PMs, start-up tests, etc.) on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed before elevating the problems to Operations & Maintenance Manager.
  • Identify potential problems and suggest changes or corrective actions.
  • Work with other members of the maintenance team, sub-contractors and other groups to continuously improve system performance, drive product quality and maintenance cost improvement.
  • Communicate cross-functionally across all necessary parts of the organization to achieve resolution to plant issues.
  • Ensure CMMS work orders are complete in their entirety. Prepare documents necessary for procurement and utilization of materials and vendor services. Diagnose and troubleshoot various project systems issues such as inverters, switchgear, transformers, breakers, communications equipment, etc.
  • Provide operation, maintenance and troubleshooting training to operators and others as needed.
  • Assist in developing standard operating documents for maintenance, operations and training.
  • Assist with project commissioning and testing providing knowledge expertise. Attend and participate in all assigned trainings in safety, environmental, and other areas as assigned.
  • Oversee and Supervise sub-contractors.
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and company policies.
  • Conduct other duties as required.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 2-5+ years of hands-on experience in field work; renewable energy (Solar, wind or similar) environment is an asset.
  • NABCEP Certification is a plus.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing various types of electrical machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications
  • Strong work ethic, positive team attitude and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be willing to work outside normal daytime hours of 8am to 5:00pm (plus nights and weekends) responding to emergency service or project equipment issues.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills (English) Must have a valid driver’s license.
