Job summary

Northern Health is seeking an experienced Nursing Unit Clerk to support the Oncology Specialty Clinic. Under supervision, the Nursing Unit Assistant performs clerical duties, including transcribing and processing physicians' orders, coordinating appointments, arranging tests, and receiving results.

Certification is required for this position. Shift is Monday to Friday, Days 08:00 to 16:00, at the Ksyen Regional Hospital in Terrace.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 and Nursing Unit Clerk program completed.
  • One year recent related experience or equivalent.
  • Medical terminology knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Transcribe and process physicians' orders accurately.
  • Coordinate appointments and arrange tests, and receive results.
  • Answer phones and direct visitors; maintain and file charts.
  • Communicate with other departments and hospitals to ensure smooth operations.

Position Summary

Northern Health is looking for an experienced, highly efficient, and self-directed Nursing Unit Clerk to support the Oncology Specialty Clinic department.


In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, the Nursing Unit Assistant performs a variety of clerical duties related to the operation of a care area. These duties include acting as a communication link for the Unit by transcribing and processing physicians' orders, communicating with other departments and hospitals, coordinating appointments, arranging tests and receiving results, receiving and directing visitors, answering telephones, assembling and maintaining charts, and performing keyboarding and data entry responsibilities.


Nursing Unit Clerk certification is required for this position.


Shift Rotation/Hours of work:

Monday to Friday, Days - 08:00 to 16:00


Qualfications

  • Grade 12, medical terminology and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to keyboard 50 w.p.m.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
