Job summary

Northern Health is seeking an experienced Nursing Unit Clerk to support the Nursing department. The role involves transcribing physicians’ orders, coordinating appointments, and handling communications with other departments and visitors. Certification and relevant experience are required.

The incumbent will maintain charts, perform data entry, and ensure timely processing of information to support patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12, medical terminology and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Nursing Unit Clerk certification is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Transcribe and process physicians’ orders, acting as a communication link for the Unit.
  • Coordinate appointments, arrange tests and receive results, and direct visitors.
  • Answer telephones, assemble and maintain charts, and perform keyboarding duties.
  • Communicate with other departments and hospitals as needed.

Job description

Position Summary

Northern Health is looking for an experienced, highly efficient, and self-directed Nursing Unit Clerk to support the Nursing department. In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, the Nursing Unit Assistant performs a variety of clerical duties related to the operation of a care area. These duties include acting as a communication link for the Unit by transcribing and processing physicians’ orders, communicating with other departments and hospitals, coordinating appointments, arranging tests and receiving results, receiving and directing visitors, answering telephones, assembling and maintaining charts, and performing keyboarding and data entry responsibilities.

Nursing Unit Clerk certification is required for this position.

Qualfications
  • Grade 12, medical terminology and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
