Responsibilities
- Ensure resident care is provided according to established nursing standards, physicians’ orders, and administrative policies. Observe, report, and record vital signs, symptoms, and conditions of residents. Ensure proper techniques in nursing care are followed.
- Assist in assessing residents, developing, implementing, reviewing, and evaluating resident care plans. Monitor residents’ health, note changes in condition, and assess the need for referral to doctors. Process and implement physicians’ orders.
- Plan, direct, supervise, and evaluate the work of nursing and personal care staff assigned to the unit. Orient and train new personnel and participate in in-service education. Monitor performance, conduct appraisals, and refer issues to the Director of Care.
- Assist in preparing the Facility for RAI MDS.
- Take charge of the Facility in the absence of the Director of Care.
- Staff replacement in the absence of the care clerk.
Qualifications
- Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.
- Previous managerial experience in long-term care is preferred.
- Experience working with cognitively impaired residents.
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and healthcare practices, including Infection Control.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with seniors.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, prioritizing tasks appropriately.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; active listening and a friendly demeanor.
- Strong problem-solving skills, ability to synthesize information, and generate creative solutions.
- Organizational, planning, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
