Job description

Join to apply for the Nurse Practitioner, Richmond Urgent & Primary Care Centre (UPCC) role at Vancouver Coastal Health

The salary range for this position is CAD $74.48/Hr. - CAD $81.93/Hr.

Come work as a Nurse Practitioner with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

The UPCC provides urgent care for patients with non-life-threatening injuries, illnesses, and conditions that should be addressed within 12 to 24 hours, but do not require the service and expertise of a hospital emergency department (CTAS 3,4,5). The UPCC operates Monday to Friday, 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Saturday 8:00 am to 10:00 pm, and Sunday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The clinic offers team-based care, on-site rapid access to X-ray and Ultrasound, and links patients to appropriate care pathways including specialists, social services, and primary care. All treatments and follow-ups are integrated with existing Primary Care providers, and patients are supported in finding Primary Care if unattached.

The ideal candidate has recent experience in primary care combined with urgent or emergent care, understands the importance of foundational primary care, and can integrate both. We foster a positive, respectful, and supportive work environment, seeking someone positive, energetic, empathic, with strong communication skills and attention to detail.

The Richmond UPCC supports work-life balance and focuses on professional development through clinical simulation exercises and quality improvement initiatives.

The clinic values diversity and encourages applications from racialized persons, women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and others contributing to diversity.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assessing patients comprehensively, diagnosing diseases and conditions.
  • Initiating treatment, managing healthcare, prescribing medications per standards and policies.
  • Providing guidance to health professionals and working autonomously within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Collaborating with clients and providers to identify trends and assess health implications.
  • Developing population-based strategies to improve health, participating in policy and quality initiatives.
  • Participating in peer reviews and self-evaluation to improve services.
  • Maintaining professional competence and privileges as required.
  • Reporting to an Operational Director, with responsibilities for quality assurance and patient safety.

Qualifications:

  • Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with BCCNM.
  • Experience as a Nurse Practitioner is an asset but motivated applicants are encouraged to apply.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to perform full scope of NP duties.
  • Knowledge of developmental stages, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and evidence-based practice.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to critically evaluate health research and implement population health strategies.
  • Leadership skills within team settings.

Note: All healthcare workers must report vaccination and infection history as per Ministry of Health policy. Applicants will need to provide this information during onboarding.

Why join VCH?

  • Career growth, training, and leadership development.
  • Wellness supports, recognition programs, and exclusive staff discounts.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusive practices.

VCH is recognized as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers in 2023. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted. Employees must apply via the Internal Career Portal on CareerHub; external applications are considered as new applicants, with no seniority benefits.
