Job summary

North Bay Regional Health Centre on the King Street Campus is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (RN(EC)) to work with the interdisciplinary team to support individuals facing mental health and/or addiction concerns. The NP will initiate withdrawal management protocols, develop treatment pathways, and help implement comprehensive care plans.

Qualifications

• Current registration with CNO as RN(EC) and with a specialty certificate in Adult or Primary Health Care.
• BLS for Health Care Providers certificate must be current (within last 12 months).
• Experience in mental health/addictions settings is preferred.
• Ability to prescribe controlled substances after education.
• CNA Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing certification is an asset.
• Experience with motivational interviewing or stages of change is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to support individuals with mental health and/or addiction concerns.

Job description

Department: Community Mental Health & Addictions - RAAM

Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions at the King Street campus, the Nurse Practitioner will work in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to provide support to individuals with mental health and/or addiction concerns. Functioning within the Standards of Practice for Extended Class as set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), the NP will work in collaboration with physicians, nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary team to initiate withdrawal management protocols, treatment pathways, and to develop and implement care plans, ensuring optimal care for patients at the King Street Campus.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class {RN (EC)}and with a specialty certificate in either Adult or Primary Health Care required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) certificate required (within the last 12 months)
• Recent clinical experience (within last 2 years) in a mental health and/or addictions setting preferred
• Successful completion of controlled substance education and ability to prescribe controlled substances required
• Current Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing certification an asset
• Experience with substance use interventions (i.e. Motivational Interviewing (MI), Stages of Change) an asset

• Ability to meet the physical demands required for a community-based team required
• Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention to ensure the safety of self, fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
• Excellent attendance and work record required
• Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
