Salary: $171,533-$182,968 pro-rated for partial FTE plus additional incentives as eligible

FNPCI INITIATIVE

The First Nations-led Primary Care Initiative (FNPCI) aims to improve access to primary health-care services for First Nations people across BC in a way that is culturally safe and closer to home. The FNPCI is part of the province’s primary care strategy, which is integrating team-based care in communities throughout B.C. and changing the way primary care is delivered with the creation of primary care networks in partnership with the Regional Health Authorities. In order to meet the health and wellness needs of First Nations people, it is very important that primary care be culturally informed where Indigenous ways of knowing and being are woven into services. One of the main objectives of the FNPCI is to develop new First Nations Primary Health Care Centres in rural and urban locations across the province. The centres will provide access to quality primary health care services for First Nations people and their families. The aim is for clients to feel safe, welcomed, valued, respected and heard when they access care services.

About The Centre

Under the guidance of the Nlaka'pamux Health Services Society (NHSS) and in partnership with FNHA. Services at the Nlaka'pamux Primary Care Centre are designed to provide wraparound, team-based primary care, mental health, and traditional wellness services. The centre will provide safe spaces for First Nations people and their families seeking high-quality primary care services. It is expected that the centre will operate Monday to Friday (excluding Statutory Holidays) during regular business hours (this may change over time due to operational needs).

About The Role

The Nurse Practitioners (NPs) will be the most responsible provider for a client panel as described in the NP clinical service contract template. NPs are expected to collaborate within a team-based environment that supports the practice of Western and Traditional Wellness approaches to client health and wellness. A minimum panel size is typically expected to reach 600 patients per 1.0 FTE by year 3 and will be confirmed in the clinical service contract. The Nurse Practitioner will be expected to travel with the team to different communities as needed. Interim services will be based out of Ashcroft while a new Clinic is being built in Lytton. NHSS Health offers an opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner drawn to meeting people where they are and practicing care grounded in respect, connection, and understanding. Located in the Lytton area, this role is rooted in community, where care extends beyond the clinical setting into relationships built over time. The community has experienced significant natural disasters and continues to demonstrate resilience, strength, and a powerful sense of coming together. Practicing in this rural, remote setting requires creativity, flexibility, and adaptability, with a focus on making the most of available resources while centering people and relationships. The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for practicing with cultural humility, to provide primary care in a culturally safe, team-based environment that recognizes the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the client (and family) to provide whole-person care, in compliance with policies and procedures of acceptable BC health and wellness regulations and standards.

About You

• You are passionate about supporting First Nations families in their health and wellness;
• You have a Masters Degree – Nurse Practitioner (Family);
• You have an active practicing license in good standing with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM);
• You have training in Cultural Safety & Humility or are willing to take this training;
• Ideally you have experience working with First Nations people and communities providing culturally safe care.
