Make a life-changing impact as a Nurse Practitioner in Mount Sinai Hospital’s NICU. As one of Canada's largest Level 3 NICUs, we are renowned for our experience with micro-preemies. Experience the unparalleled reward of delivering innovative care to our tiniest and most vulnerable patients. If you're driven to practice at the forefront of neonatal care, collaborate with leading experts, and shape the future of this rewarding field, then Mount Sinai is where you belong.

Is this you?

You are seeking a role that allows you to fully utilize your skills in a cutting-edge environment. This opportunity offers a unique blend of clinical, educational, and leadership experiences. Here, you will gain experience with some of the most challenging and rewarding neonatal cases, enabling you to learn from a diverse patient population and enhance your confidence and capabilities in various clinical situations. You will have the opportunity to perform advanced assessments, intubations, line insertions, and resuscitations.

In this role, you will make impactful decisions while receiving support for professional growth. You will refine your leadership experience by participating in quality assurance and program development initiatives. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team will enhance your teamwork and communication skills. Additionally, your involvement in research and evidence-based practice will deepen your expertise, preparing you for advanced clinical roles, leadership positions, and opportunities in academic or research settings.

You have a deep-seated commitment to delivering exceptional care to newborns, particularly those facing complex medical needs. You thrive in a dynamic, high-acuity environment and are drawn to the challenges and rewards of working with a diverse and often fragile patient population. You understand that every tiny hand you hold represents a world of hope and possibility, and you're driven to make a lasting difference in the lives of these vulnerable infants and their families.

About Our NICU

The NICU consists of 2 levels of specialized care: Level III and Level II. The NICU has 62 beds and provides care for infants who require assisted ventilation, intravenous nutrition, intensive cardiorespiratory monitoring and/or close nursing and medical care. Each year our team provides care for approximately 1,100 neonates. Family Integrated Care (FICare) is the philosophy that guides how we provide care for the infants in our NICU. This means parents are viewed as an integral part of the NICU team providing active care for their infant, instead of being in a passive support role.

In This Role You Will

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in the establishment of goals and objectives for the program consistent with the provision of high-quality care
  • Participate in the programmatic development of the clinical area and participate and provide leadership in nursing practice and evaluation
  • Aid in the development and maintenance of standards of clinical practice through the creation of an environment conducive to growth and development of staff, excellence in clinical practice and implementation and utilization of research
  • Interpret and foster the philosophy, goals and standards of the Department of Nursing and Department of Paediatrics
  • Develop partnerships within Mount Sinai Hospital and within the community at large, including identification of community resources, multi-cultural services, and adult and paediatric services to enhance continuity of care for clients
  • Perform and participate in research activities. Implement and advance changes in evidence-based practice
  • Deliver, coordinate and participate in education and professional development activities/programs involving both staff and clients
  • Perform activities to further develop and strengthen the profession including the supervision of advanced nursing students
  • Act as a resource and serves as a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community

Job Requirements

Mandatory

  • Successful completion of a Master’s degree in nursing from a CNO accredited academic institution and a Nurse Practitioner Certificate or equivalent combined education and experience
  • Current registration (Extended Class) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario

  • Paediatric care with NICU staff nursing experience

Preferred

  • Proven expertise in the implementation of the Nurse Practitioner role
  • National Certification Corporation (NCC) Board Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
  • Membership in Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) and other organizations relevant to the role
  • Demonstrated experience through roles of advanced practitioner, educator, researcher and administration/leadership
  • Experience precepting and evaluating undergraduate and post-graduate nursing students, as well as clinical fellows

Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to sensitively communicate with patients/families in vulnerable situations
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Excellent organization, time management, program planning and evaluation skills
  • Demonstrated decision making, problem recognition/solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Proven commitment to collaborative practice and ability to work effectively independently and within an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment
