The Nurse Practitioner is responsible and accountable for comprehensive assessments of patients/clients/residents, including diagnosing diseases, disorders, and conditions. The Nurse Practitioner initiates treatment, manages healthcare, performs therapeutic interventions, and prescribes medications in accordance with statutory and regulatory standards, limits, conditions, policies, and guidelines. They provide professional guidance to other health professionals and practice autonomously and interdependently within an interdisciplinary healthcare team, making referrals to physicians and others as appropriate.
This position involves collaborating with patients/clients/residents and other team members to identify and assess trends affecting health outcomes. The Nurse Practitioner develops and implements population and evidence-based strategies to improve health and participates in policy-making activities influencing health services and practices. The role also includes participating in peer review and self-assessment to evaluate service outcomes at individual, community, and population levels.
Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing NP registrant; successful completion of the OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination); and two (2) years of recent, relevant clinical nursing experience.
