NURSE PRACTITIONER, EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

Temporary Full Time, Part Time, or Casual

The Renfrew Victoria Hospital (RVH) is a 55-bed, fully accredited facility located just 45 minutes west of Ottawa, serving a catchment area of over 60,000. Part of the Renfrew and Area Health Village, RVH provides medical, surgical and complex continuing care as well as extensive ambulatory care with over 30,000 emergency and clinic visits per year. We work with EPIC EMR, which connects us to most hospitals in our region, and training is provided.

RVH provides a number of perks for staff, including up to $800 in education funds every year, an on-site modern gym open 24/7, and regular staff recognition, appreciation and wellness activities. We have a unique nursing bursary program that provides RVH nurses with thousands of dollars each year to further their education and certifications.

We are recruiting full-time, part-time, or casual Nurse Practitioners (NPs) to work in our Emergency Department. The NP will practice alongside our ED Physicians on duty, assessing patients. The expectation is to see CTAS 4-5 patients.

The NP would demonstrate advanced knowledge, skill and judgment in providing care to patients that is consistent with CNO Practice Standards as well as competencies defined by the Canadian Nurses Association. This includes the authority to diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals and perform procedures.

Qualifications

Working alongside physicians, and as part of a team with other PA and NPs, the NP will demonstrate a high degree of autonomy and clinical skill to formulate clinical decisions, appropriately manage acute illness, and promote wellness. Additional responsibilities include:

  1. Providing direct patient care within the scope of practice to optimize patient outcomes and enhance safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of care;
  2. Collaborating with other nurse leaders to support the development of nursing staff and the implementation of key nursing practice initiatives, including the development, implementation and evaluation of best practice guidelines;
  3. Collaborating with the entire health care team to develop, implement and evaluate best practice guidelines in specific patient populations.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, education and experience:

  1. Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in the Extended Class – Adult;
  2. Minimum of two years recent working experience as an NP; experience in the ED is preferable;
  3. Advanced health assessment and clinical skills combined with sound clinical judgement and diagnostic skills relevant to dealing with a wide variety of health concerns;
  4. Demonstrated ability to respond appropriately to rapidly changing clinical conditions;
  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team setting, and to effectively communicate and collaborate in an inter-professional team context;
  6. Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity and expertise in the care of seniors;
  7. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

This is a contract, casual, part-time or full-time position under ONA with a salary range of $57.79 to $68.83. All temporary positions come with an additional 14% in lieu of benefits and pension.

Only candidates selected for interview will be contacted. RVH is an equal opportunity employer, committed to meeting needs under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom, the Ontario Human Rights Code, and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. Applicants requiring accommodation should contact Human Resources at (613) 432-4851.

RVH is an approved employer of the CNO Supervised Practice Experience Partnership program. SPEP-eligible Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) are welcome to apply.
