Job summary

London Drugs is seeking a Nurse Immunizer for a 6-month casual contract in British Columbia. You will administer IM vaccines, document records in IMMSBC, and support vaccine supply management within the pharmacy team.

The role requires current nursing licensure (LPN/RN/RPN), active BPW registration in good standing, and CPR/BLS. Training for intranasal vaccines and emergency response readiness is provided as needed.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education as LPN, RN or RPN.
  • Active registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives in good standing.
  • CPR/BLS certification and immunization training are required assets.

Responsibilities

  • Administer IM vaccines to eligible patients with informed consent.
  • Document vaccination records accurately in IMMSBC.
  • Maintain knowledge of influenza and COVID-19 vaccines and eligibility criteria.
  • Assist in vaccine/injection supply inventory management.

We currently have opportunities for:

Nurse Immunizer (BC) - 6 month casual contract with a possibility of extension.

This position is responsible for supporting the safe administration of vaccines and medications for injection (primarily influenza and COVID-19) to eligible patients.

Responsibilities include:
  • Engage with patients to select appropriate vaccines, discuss potential adverse effects, and obtain informed consent.
  • Administer vaccinations by injection (usually IM) in accordance with standards of practice and guidelines for various patient scenarios.
  • Accurately document vaccination records in IMMSBC (Immunization Management System for BC).
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of influenza and COVID-19 vaccines including public eligibility criteria, indications, and drug information.
  • Assist the pharmacy manager in managing vaccine and injection supply inventory.
  • Exercise professional judgment to ensure safe and effective healthcare services for patients.
  • Adhere to all regulatory, departmental, and company policies and procedures.
  • Potential opportunities to provide additional services throughout the year, including Point-Of-Care-Testing for health screening (additional training provided)
The successful candidates will possess the following:
  • Recent experience and competency administering IM vaccines.
  • Comfortable administering injectable vaccines to patients aged 4 years and older.
  • Willing to receive training to administer intranasal influenza vaccine (nasal spray) to patients aged 2 years and older.
  • Trained to respond to emergency anaphylactic reactions, including the administration of epinephrine by injection (EpiPen or vials).
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) when interacting with customers, staff, and management.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively within the pharmacy team.
  • Highly organized, efficient, and able to multitask.
  • Exercises sound judgment and effective problem-solving abilities as required.
  • Dependable and reliable.
EDUCATION & KNOWLEDGE:
  • Completion of post-secondary education: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN).
  • Active registration, in good standing, with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Valid Standard First Aid CPR Level C with AED certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Completion of BCCDC Immunization Competency Courses is an asset.
  • Experience using IMMSBC for recording vaccination information is an asset; candidates with adequate experience administering COVID-19 and/or flu vaccines may also be considered.
  • Good working knowledge of computers.
SCHEDULING:
  • Flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinics typically run from mid-October through December, and may continue into January if there is demand.
  • Possibility of optional spring COVID-19 booster programs depending on recommendations from BCCDC and BC Minister of Health.
  • Clinic days may be scheduled Monday through Sunday and will be coordinated with pharmacy managers and head office.
  • Scheduled hours vary depending on vaccine supply, public demand, and available days and locations you are willing to work.
