Job summary

The Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM) is seeking an autonomous and rigorous clinical nurse to ensure continuity of care for patients and research participants in an environment combining specialized care and clinical research.

Reporting directly to Dr. Emilia Liana Falcone, you will participate in the Microbiome and Mucosal Defence Research Unit and IRCM Post-COVID-19 Research Clinic, carrying out assessments, education, coordination and research-data collection in Montreal.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in Quebec (OIIQ).
• Minimum two years of clinical experience.
• Strong clinical judgment and autonomous work style.
• Excellent communication with patients and teams.
• Fluent in French and English (spoken and written).

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized nursing care and assess patients and participants in clinic and research settings.
• Conduct visits within protocols and scope of practice, consulting physicians as needed.
• Manage post-visit follow-up, coordinate tests and follow-ups, monitor treatments.
• Educate patients on medication administration and storage requirements.
• Assist with patient-support programs and research data collection.
• Document assessments and follow-ups accurately in the EMR.

Job Overview

The Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM) is an internationally recognized biomedical research centre. Reporting directly to Dr. Emilia Liana Falcone, the position is part of her clinical and research program, which includes the Microbiome and Mucosal Defence Research Unit and the IRCM Post-COVID-19 Research Clinic (IPCO).

The program studies post-infectious conditions, including long COVID, inborn errors of immunity and inflammatory diseases. It combines longitudinal clinical follow-up, phenotyped cohorts, biobanking and translational research in immunology, the microbiome and intestinal barrier biology.

We are seeking an autonomous and rigorous clinical nurse to ensure continuity of care for patients and research participants in an environment combining specialized care and clinical research.

As a key link between patients, Dr. Falcone and the multidisciplinary team, the nurse will provide assessment, education, coordination, documentation and research‑data collection.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized nursing care and assess patients and participants followed for conditions including inborn errors of immunity, inflammatory diseases and post-infectious conditions.
• Independently conduct clinical or research visits within protocols and scope of practice, promptly consulting the medical team when needed.
• Manage post-visit follow-up: relay instructions, answer questions, coordinate tests and consultations, obtain results, and monitor treatment effectiveness and tolerance.
• Teach medication administration; verify appropriate storage of products and required supplies.
• Assist patients with relevant patient-support programs.
• Document assessments, interventions and follow-up completely and accurately in the EMR.

Clinical research responsibilities

• Support clinical studies and longitudinal cohorts with the research team, including protocol-specific sampling, assessments, questionnaires, education and follow-up.
• Collect, enter, extract and validate clinical and symptom data in REDCap, the EMR and other authorized sources in accordance with study protocols and ethics requirements.
• When clinical workload permits, contribute to participant identification, prescreening, recruitment and follow-up, including recruitment targets.
• Implement new protocols, including interventional studies, in compliance with ethics requirements and Good Clinical Practice.

What You Bring to the Table

Essential Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• Member in good standing of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ).
• At least two years of relevant clinical experience.
• Excellent clinical judgment and ability to work autonomously while promptly recognizing situations requiring physician input.
• Excellent communication skills with patients, families, colleagues and collaborators.
• Functional bilingualism in French and English, spoken and written.
• Comfort with standard computer applications and electronic medical record systems.

Strong assets

• Experience in clinical research, study coordination, an academic environment or a specialized clinic.
• Experience with REDCap or other research databases.
• Experience in clinical immunology, infectious diseases, inflammatory diseases, complex ambulatory care or longitudinal patient follow-up.
• Experience with participant recruitment, chart review, research consent or clinical data collection.

Key Information
