Job summary

BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. in Peterborough, Ontario seeks a Mechanical Designer on a 1-year contract to support design of mechanical equipment for CANDU reactors, including automated and semi-automated fuelling machines, medical isotope systems and tooling.

Reporting to the Design Services Manager, you will prepare detailed 2D/3D drawings, interface with engineers and vendors, apply GD&T, and help drive cost and schedule while ensuring quality and compliance across projects.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering Technologist (CET) or equivalent with related mechanical design experience.
• Experience with 3D parametric CAD software, preferably with SOLIDWORKS or Autodesk Inventor.
• Possess working knowledge of fundamental drafting techniques and practices including GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the development, modelling and drafting of designs for automated and semi-automated equipment using 2D/3D CAD software (SOLIDWORKS, Inventor, AutoCAD).
• Collaborate with engineers and technologists to produce and update drawings and BOMs.
• Apply GD&T and DFMA techniques and select mechanical components.
• Provide technical support to engineering, procurement and manufacturing.
• Participate in design reviews and customer meetings as needed.
• Travel to customer sites within Ontario as required.
• Manage cost and schedule on assigned projects and ensure compliance with processes and standards.
