Job summary

Interior Health Authority is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist to join the Penticton Regional Hospital laboratory in Penticton, British Columbia. This casual role involves performing routine and complex tests using manual and automated methods, handling specimen collection, LIS data entry, and reporting results.

The position supports clinical chemistry, hematology, and transfusion medicine.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a Medical Laboratory setting preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex tests using manual procedures and automated instruments in the laboratory.
  • Greet patients, collect and/or receive specimens, and enter data into the LIS and related systems.
  • Validate and report test results, maintain instruments, and prepare solutions and controls.
  • Participate in departmental training to learn new tests and procedures across lab sections.

About the Job

In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, within the context of client‑centred care, and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, policies, procedures, this position works in a team based environment and under general supervision of the Operations Supervisor, Professional Practice Leader or other designated personnel performs a variety of routine and/or complex tests utilizing manual procedures and automated instruments within the laboratory. Position is also responsible for functions such as greeting patients, collecting and/or receiving specimens, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and related computer systems/programs, validating and reporting test results, maintaining instruments and preparing solutions and control agents in accordance with established procedures and safety standards. Participates in departmental training programs in individual or all sections of the lab (such as, microbiology, histology, cytology, etc.) with a view to learning new/existing tests and procedures for use in the Laboratory.

Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine (Science)

This is a Casual opportunity. Casual means hours are not guaranteed and may vary and shifts may be at short notice. Casual employees are eligible to apply for internal postings including permanent and temporary positions. Shifts of work will be scheduled rotating days, evenings and nights.
