The University of Alberta’s Faculty of Nursing is seeking a Nurse Practitioner Specialty Practice (NPSP) Clinical Placement Specialist to lead and coordinate graduate clinical placements for the Post-Master’s Certificate in NPSP.

The role focuses on developing partnerships with healthcare organizations, coordinating placement activities, and ensuring operational requirements are met, with a hybrid work arrangement at North Campus Edmonton and an end date of March 31, 2031.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree required; Master's degree considered an asset.
  • Active registration with the provincial nursing regulatory body (CRNA).
  • Experience in nursing practice and knowledge of healthcare systems.
  • Knowledge of clinical education environments and placement processes.

  • Coordinates communication among students, faculty, healthcare partners and agencies.
  • Maintains systems to track placements, agreements, capacity and documentation.

Job description

This position has an expected end date of March 31, 2031.

Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.

The Nurse Practitioner Specialty Practice (NPSP) Clinical Placement Specialist is responsible for facilitating, coordinating, and supporting the development of clinical placement opportunities for graduate students in the Post-Master’s Certificate in NPSP. The Certificate supports licensed Nurse Practitioners to achieve additional knowledge and clinical practice skills within an area of specialization.

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies, the position provides leadership in the operational planning, coordination, and administration of clinical placements and is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with healthcare partners, facilitating placement opportunities, supporting placement-related agreements, and developing processes that support the ongoing operation of the graduate clinical placement programs.

Responsibilities
Clinical Placement Development and Partnership Management
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships with healthcare organizations, health authorities, professional associations, regulatory bodies, and other clinical placement partners provincially.
  • Identifies, develops, and facilitates new clinical placement opportunities to support the evolving needs of the NPSP certificate program
  • Collaborates with the Director, NP Programs, and external partners to support development of innovative clinical placement models and learning opportunities.
Clinical Placement Coordination and Operations
  • Coordinates clinical placement activities for NPSP certificate students in collaboration with the Director, NP Programs and other Graduate Office staff.
  • Facilitates placement planning processes to support alignment between program requirements and available placement opportunities.
  • Coordinates communication and information sharing between students, faculty members, healthcare partners, and placement agencies.
  • Supports implementation of approved placement plans and ensures operational requirements are addressed.
  • Maintains systems and processes to track placements, agreements, placement capacity, partner information, and related documentation.
Stakeholder Consultation and Communication
  • Provides guidance and information regarding placement processes, timelines, documentation requirements, and operational considerations.
  • Facilitates communication among stakeholders to support successful placement experiences.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Nursing degree required. Master's degree in Nursing or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Active registration and good standing with the applicable provincial nursing regulatory body (CRNA).
  • Experience in nursing practice and strong understanding of healthcare systems, clinical practice environments, and the role of Nurse Practitioners within the Canadian healthcare system.
  • Knowledge of clinical education environments, clinical placement processes, and the operational requirements associated with healthcare student placements.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate partnerships and work effectively with diverse stakeholder groups to achieve shared objectives.
  • Strong consultation, negotiation, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and independently manage complex issues involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and evolving operational requirements.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify emerging issues, assess risks, and develop practical solutions.
  • Experience working with databases, tracking systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications. Experience with HSPnet or other placement management systems is considered an asset.

This position offers a comprehensive benefits package, and an annual salary range of$34,470.00to$57,471.50(pro-rated).

The terms and conditions of this appointment are governed by Schedule G of the collective agreement between the University and the Association of Academic Staff of the University of Alberta.
