Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or certificate in payroll administration, accounting, finance, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two years experience processing payroll using computerized payroll systems.
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial payroll legislation, statutory deductions, remittances, and reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency with payroll software and spreadsheet applications, including advanced functions in Excel.
  • Strong numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines for multiple payroll cycles.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential employee information with discretion and maintain accurate records.

Responsibilities

  • Process regular and off-cycle payroll runs, including calculation of hours, overtime, statutory holiday pay, and retroactive adjustments.
  • Calculate and apply statutory and voluntary deductions, prepare remittances for taxes, benefits, and garnishments, and ensure timely submission to authorities and providers.
  • Maintain and reconcile payroll records and accounts, prepare payroll journal entries, and assist with month-end and year-end reconciliations.
  • Prepare payroll reports and summaries for management and accounting, including payroll cost allocations and accruals.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and employment earnings, and liaise with human resources to implement changes in wages or status.
  • Support preparation of year-end tax documents and filings, update payroll policies and procedures, and ensure confidentiality and compliance with legislation.

Job Summary
