The Nisichawayasi Nehetho Culture and Education Authority is seeking applicants for one (1) full time Registered Nurse to service our Education system. The school Nurse functions as part of our Student Support Services teams and oversees a variety of different health related needs within our system. The school nurse’s time is divided between both schools to provide service to our system in its entirety.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Basic health assessments of minor medical services to students
- Referrals to other local health professionals, as needed with needed follow-up
- When called upon, to deal with medical emergencies/administer medication
- To set up and maintain/operate a school nursing room/program with needed medical supplies at each schools
- Ensure a pertinent and comprehensive database tis maintained o collect and record assessments in a timely manner.
- To promote control of communicable and infectious diseases
- To do home visits, when necessary
- To demonstrate and promote healthy living/lifestyle
- To provide informational presentations/reports/supports on health to students, parents/staff
- To organize and/or participate in various incentives throughout the school year which enhance student/staff wellness.
- To do follow-up (phoning, home visits) and letters/report writing on students served
- To assist with any health-related activity
- Adheres to, complies with, the NNCEA policy manual, its’ policies and procedures
- Maintains confidentiality in accordance with the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Freedom of Information and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), NNCEA policies and procedures.
- Collaboration, consultation and frequent communication with the Support Services Team:the Resource Program Administrator, Resource Teachers, Guidance Counsellors, administration and community health resources
- Makes the necessary recommendations to the school administration and be heavily involved with needed improvements/recommendations of the school nursing program.
- To ensure needed medicines and materials are available for school use
- Possible provision of the promotion of the program on the local radio station
- To further develop and strengthen this program as the years go by and create written guidelines
- Provides a monthly, written activity report to the OK Resource Program Administrator & Principals
- Provides a yearly, written report on the school nurse program by May 15thfor the Annual General Assembly which contains program strengths, program challenges and next steps.
- Provision of assistance in other areas of expertise, as requested, by NNCEA administration.
- In consultation with NCN Public Health, administer applicable vaccinations for students
- Compile the required data and information regarding vaccinations for students and staff, administer required forms, and implement vaccination standards and practices
- Construct a schedule to meet with the student population on an individual basis for bi-annual check ups
- Maintain clinical records
- Provide emergency first aid to staff and students
- Assist teachers will preparation and implementation of health/sexual education and nutrition education
- Assess, revise, and advise COVID-19 and other pandemic or influenza related protocols in the school
- Other tasks as assigned by Administration
Wage: Negotiable based on experience
Requirements: Registered in good standing with Manitoba College of Nurses
Clear and current Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
Schedule: This position follows the academic year calendar
