Job summary

Baycrest Hospital in Toronto is hiring a Personal Support Worker (PSW) for the Apotex 4 Cognitive Support Unit. This temporary part-time role covers night shifts with alternate weekends for 6 months, at 30 hours biweekly.

Union SEIU Service covers the position. You will assist residents with hygiene, grooming and dressing, monitor nutrition and hydration, and support their social, emotional and cognitive well-being under the care team.

Qualifications

• Current P.S.W. certificate from a recognized community college or educational institution.
• Recent placement and/or working experience with the physically and/or cognitively impaired elderly in a health care setting is required
• Experience with mental health assessment and intervention and working with responsive behaviors due to various types of dementia, delirium, and other mental health issues is preferred
• Basic computer skills - Meditech/PointClickCare, Microsoft Word and Excel is an asset

Responsibilities

• Provides personal care (hygiene, grooming, dressing) and monitors nutrition/hydration.
• Supports social, emotional, cognitive and cultural well-being under the direct care team.
• Uses professional judgment to monitor and meet care goals per LTC standards, policies, procedures and legislation.
• Develops and maintains relationships with clients, families and other care providers
