Job summary

West Coast Seniors Housing Management is seeking a Part-Time Night Houseman for overnight shifts (10:00pm-7:00am) at a Comox Valley community. You will perform night janitorial and security duties, maintain sanitation, and support resident safety with a strong emphasis on hygiene and infection control.

The role requires overnight availability, Grade 10, and WHMIS/First Aid certification, plus ability to work independently and pass a vulnerable sector check. Equal opportunity employer.

Responsibilities

• Be an engaged team player to support the organizational culture.
• Maintain general security of buildings and residents; respond to emergency call system.
• Perform routine cleaning of buildings, offices, washrooms and elevators; dust, vacuum, mop and sanitize.
• Clean exterior surfaces and manage plant care in scheduled areas.
• Support other departments with clean-up after events.
• Maintain a safe environment and follow infection control procedures.
• Report significant changes or concerns to nursing staff.
• Attend community and education programs.
• Perform other related duties as required.

About the Role

The Night Houseman reports to the Support Services Manager and/or designate and isresponsible for the night janitorial and security duties at the community. This role maintains theestablished standards for sanitation, cleanness, and safe work environment for all personsserved.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to:

1. 1. Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professionalrelationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
2. 2. Responsible for the general security of the buildings and residents including residentemergency call system;
3. 3. Carries out all aspects of routine and rotation cleaning throughout the building, offices,washrooms and elevators which include: dusting, vacuuming and sweeping; cleaningappliances; washing and buffing floors, walls, windows and doors; removingcurtains/window coverings for cleaning and re-hanging; garbage removal; wateringplants
4. 4. Clean exterior hard surfaces by hosing off brick areas outside main doors nightly. Waterplanter boxes and tree and set‑out and take in soaker hoses in scheduled areas. Emptyexterior ashtray.
5. 5. Supports other departments as needed with clean up after events.
6. 6. Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through: - accident prevention, - knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations, - the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs arenecessary - keeps work area in an orderly, safe and clean condition - keeps inventory in order on individual carts; replenishes supplies throughout thebuilding, and - Utilizing infection control procedures
7. 7. Reports significant changes or uncommon resident behaviour or concerns to nursingstaff as required.
8. 8. Attends and participates in community and education programs.
9. 9. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills

1. 1. Grade 10 or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
2. 2. Must be available to work overnight shifts.
3. 3. WHMIS Certificate.
4. 4. First Aid Certificate.
5. 5. Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
6. 6. Free from communicable diseases and allergies or conditions which may be aggravatedby working with cleaners, detergents, and equipment.
7. 7. Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and writteninstructions.
8. 8. All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Checkapplicable to Provincial guidelines.
9. 9. Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Must be able to work withcleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
