Job summary

IWK Health in Halifax, Nova Scotia, seeks a Newcomer and Cultural Consultant to support culturally safe and equitable care experiences for newcomers, immigrants and diverse communities. You will provide cultural guidance to staff, coordinate translation materials, and collaborate with teams and community partners to identify barriers and improve services.

Hours are Mon-Fri, 37.5 weekly. This permanent, full-time position starts October 2026.

Qualifications

• Diploma (2-3 years) required
• Minimum of two years of related experience
• Fluency in both Arabic and English (oral and written)
• Ability to analyze information from patients, families and partners to identify barriers
• Communicate respectfully with diverse communities and healthcare teams

Responsibilities

• Provides cultural context and guidance to promote understanding among patients, families, staff and communities
• Builds relationships with newcomer and cultural communities to support engagement and resources
• Identifies barriers to equitable access and contributes to strategies to improve care
• Collaborates with internal teams, partners and government/NGO organizations on newcomer health and cultural safety
• Collects and reviews information to support policy and program development
• Identifies trends and conducts reviews to inform culturally safe practices
• Develops, tracks and reports performance indicators for programs
• Supports translation services tracking and coordination of translated materials
• Coordinates staff education on newcomer trends and cultural safety
