Job summary

North Bay Regional Health Centre is seeking a Clinical Nurse Educator for the Critical Care Unit to provide clinical leadership, mentorship and education. The role focuses on promoting evidence-informed practice and excellence in patient care within a high-acuity environment.

Ideal candidates will have a BScN, a Master’s degree in Nursing, and recent critical care experience, with current CNO registration and cardiopulmonary certifications.

Qualifications

  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
  • Graduate of a recognized BScN program; a Master’s degree in Nursing is required.
  • Masters of Nursing or MScN is required.
  • BLS for Health Care Providers certificate within last 12 months is required.
  • ACLS for Health Care Providers certificate within last 12 months is required.
  • RACE Training (Rescue, Alarm, Confine, Extinguish) is required.
  • 2–3 years’ ICU experience; 5+ years recent critical care experience preferred.
  • Excellent physical and psychosocial assessment skills; knowledge in education curriculum development.
  • Proven knowledge of Ontario nursing standards and ongoing education.

Job description

Department: Critical Care Unit

The Clinical Nurse Educator will provide clinical leadership, education, mentorship, and support to nurses and other members of the interprofessional team, promoting evidence-informed practice and excellence in patient care.

QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge
  • Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Graduate of a recognized BScN Program required
  • Masters of Nursing or Masters of Science in Nursing required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (within the last twelve months)
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (within the last twelve months)
  • Coronary Care Course and/or Lead II Interpretation Course, 12 Lead Interpretation required
  • RACE Training required (Rescue, Alarm, Confine, Extinguish)
  • 2-3 years’ experience on a Critical Careunit required
  • Minimum of 5 years recent (within last 2-3 years) Critical Careexperience required
  • Excellent demonstrated physical and psychosocial assessment and intervention skills required
  • Knowledge of adult teaching and learning principles combined with recent teaching experience (patient and staff education) required
  • Knowledge / experience in education curriculum development, implementation and evaluation required
  • Proven working knowledge of the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Nursing Practice required

  • Ability to participate in professional groups dedicated to excellence in nursing practice with the patient populations served required
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present educational material based on the principles of adult education required

  • Strong knowledge of Philips patient monitoring system and their clinical applications is an asset
  • Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) an asset

  • Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
  • Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is an asset. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
