Job Summary:
The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, managing, maintaining, and supporting the organization's network infrastructure for capital projects. This role is crucial in ensuring the stability, integrity, and integration of networks with different systems and environments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to managing network operations.
Responsibilities:
- Management of IT network devices, including approximately 8 firewalls, 8 routers, 90 switches.
- Read and interpret technical documentation to support installation and configuration of systems.
- Assess environments and provide recommendations for implementation.
- Design, engineer, and implement network infrastructure modifications using various network protocols under the guidance of IT Architects.
- Configure monitoring of network devices using network monitoring systems.
- Support compliance requirements by obtaining evidence on systems.
- Troubleshoot network and devices using various IT applications/tools.
- Create and maintain technical documentation of designs, diagrams, and processes.
- Collaborate with stakeholders for design, procurement, implementation, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of network devices.
- Work closely with TBC’s IT team to execute projects successfully.
- Scope and procure IT network device hardware according to project requirements.
- Use tools to troubleshoot, organize, label, and run network cables.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or a related field; relevant certifications and extensive experience can substitute for formal education.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in network engineering, preferably in the energy or utility sector.
- Regular travel or commute to California locations (Pittsburgh or San Francisco) for project tasks.
- Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, and climbing ladders.
- Fluent in English; strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Visio, and Word, with an emphasis on Visio for network drawings and documentation.
Preferred Skills:
- Deep knowledge of networking protocols.
- Proficiency in network monitoring and analysis tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with NERC CIP compliance and standards.
- Experience working in secure environments.
- Knowledge of networking technologies and management tools such as Dragos, PRTG, Cisco switches/firewalls, Cisco Prime, Cisco ISE, Cisco FMC, CheckPoint Firewalls, Palo Alto Firewalls, Arista switches, Splunk.
- Strong technical knowledge of networking concepts and methodologies.
- Reliable, accountable, and communicative work ethic.
- Ability to work well in team settings and independently with limited guidance.
