Job summary

Surrey Police Service is seeking a Network Analyst 3 to lead ongoing development and sustainment of the IT networking infrastructure. The role focuses on Cisco networking, QoS, Wi-Fi, and VoIP, with responsibilities spanning design, monitoring, and vendor coordination.

The incumbent will deliver SOPs, standards, and best practices, while collaborating with IT teams to maintain infrastructure health in line with policy. This is an on-site role, 35 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Four years related IT/networking experience.
• Degree in a related field from a recognized institution.
• Must obtain and maintain police security clearance including polygraph.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational support for a variety of communication systems including wired and wireless technologies.
• Respond to and resolve communications issues, including hardware failures, network outages, and system errors.
• Research, evaluate, and implement new technologies and diagnostic tools.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Network Analyst 3 to join our Information Management and Technology Division, within the Corporate Services Bureau. Performing a critical role in leading the ongoing development and sustainment of our IT networking infrastructure, the successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of current networking technologies and trends with in-depth knowledge of Cisco network technologies including switches, QoS, Wi‑Fi and VoIP. Drawing on experience to develop standards and best practices, they will be proficient in network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (e.g., Cisco DNA Center, Wireshark, SolarWinds). Focus areas include equipment evaluation and provisioning, SOP development, network design, performance monitoring and tuning, and working with various IT teams and vendors to maintain overall Infrastructure health in accordance with established IT policies and procedures.

Schedule / Hours of Work

This is an on‑site position and the anticipated schedule for this position is 35 hrs/week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide troubleshooting support and guidance to IT staff and end‑users.
• Work with various stakeholders to recommend, design, testing, and implement system upgrades and improvements to existing systems and processes.
• Analyze data and metrics to identify bottlenecks, vulnerabilities, and areas for improvement.
• Implement and enforce security measures and best practices to protect the organization from threats and vulnerabilities.
• Perform monitoring and maintenance activities in accordance with established IT policies and procedures.
• Preparing and maintaining technical and user documentation including system documentation and SOPs required to support police operations.
• Act as a resource and escalation point for junior staff.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY AND SKILL

• Knowledge in complex essential IT infrastructure components (e.g., relational database system, network operating system, wide area network) and security issues.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to explain and present complex technical information.
• Ability to plan and organize work to meet deadlines and achieve objectives of the work group.
• Ability to research and investigate applicability of new technology to improve operations and assist client needs.

• Ability to anticipate problems, analyze situations, identify resolutions, and make recommendations.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Degree in a related field from a recognized institution.
• Four years related experience.
• Acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
• All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includes a mandatory polygraph examination.
