Job summary

AVI Health & Community Services is seeking a Nanaimo-based coordinator for the Nanaimo Community Action Team (CAT). You will coordinate meetings, support collaboration, and help plan community engagement and events to address the region's overdose crisis with a trauma-informed, harm-reduction approach.

The role is 22 hours per week, paid at $40 per hour plus expenses, with flexible evenings and weekends as needed, and a mix of in-person and remote work within Canada.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of relevant experience, education, training, or lived/living experience.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating community tables or collaborative initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships across sectors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with project coordination and/or event planning.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed practice, and cultural safety.
  • Driver’s License (highly recommended but required)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support regular Nanaimo CAT meetings
  • Prepare meeting agendas, materials, minutes, and follow-up documentation
  • Support NCAT membership and Peer Coordinator with agenda-setting, decision-making, and action tracking
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among CAT members and partners
  • Build and maintain relationships with CAT members, peer leadership, and community partners
  • Support trauma-informed, culturally safe, and inclusive collaboration
  • Advance equity-centered and harm reduction approaches
  • Plan, manage, and support community engagement events and initiatives
  • Support CAT working groups in developing and implementing action plans
  • Assist with regional and cross-community coordination as required
  • Track project progress, budgets, and evaluation measures
  • Maintain documentation aligned with CAI and funder reporting requirements
