Want to put your naval architecture expertise to work on everything from tugs and ferries to surface combatants and submarines? We’re working with an engineering organisation that tackles some of the most important engineering challenges of our time, and they’re looking for an Intermediate Naval Architect to join their multi-disciplinary team in Canada.
You’ll deliver stability assessments, structural assessments, Engineering Changes (EC) and design work across small to large platforms – backed by senior mentors, a collaborative culture and genuine support for your career growth. Diversity, equity and inclusion sit at the heart of how they work, as does their commitment to a safer, more efficient and sustainable future.
What will I be doing?
- Carry out Naval Architecture calculations – hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, structural strength, seakeeping and motions, and resistance and propulsion – on platforms ranging from tugs, barges and ferries to surface combatants, submarines, and cargo and passenger vessels
- Contribute to feasibility studies, concept designs, and the installation and integration of new and replacement equipment, presenting your designs through 2D drawings or 3D models
- Support Trim and Incline (T&I) experiments, including the associated calculations and documentation
- Work with shipyards, dockyards, owners, Class and OEMs on ship surveys for design and engineering changes, mid-life upgrades and condition documentation
- Lead the development of survey packages, carry out visual inspections and condition surveys on marine structures (including submarines) in a heavy industrial environment, and produce survey and stability reports in client, Class or standard formats
- Apply IMO regulations, Class Society rules, Transport Canada Regulations and Canadian Forces Technical Orders, and stamp and seal Professional Engineering deliverables in your area of practice
- Advise internal and external customers, working independently on technical tasks and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
- Work within the Quality Management System (QMS), business and ethics codes of conduct, and engineering best practice
- Keep your technical skills sharp through Continuing Professional Development, learn from senior colleagues and help mentor junior staff
- Help shape a positive team culture through feedback, team building and wellness activities
