Job description

PetroChina International Canada Trading ("PCIC" or the "Company") is part of the PetroChina family, based in China. PetroChina is one of the world’s largest integrated, global oil and gas companies. PCIC, based in Calgary, engages in crude oil and natural gas business activities in Canada and elsewhere in North America, in coordination with its parent company PetroChina International (America) Inc., based in Houston, Texas. A substantial portion of PCIC’s current operations involves trading energy commodities in the physical and financial markets.

The Position

Based in Calgary, the Natural Gas (NG) Sr. Scheduler reports to the Director, NG Trading of PCIC. The position works closely with the Traders, Analysts, Finance, Risk, Legal and Executive teams to provide support for PetroChina’s Canadian operations.

This role will be responsible for all aspects of the NG Scheduling, including business development, marketing, and strategic planning. This role will work closely with all of PCIC’s customers.

Overall Responsibilities
  • Responsible for NG scheduling duties on various transmission pipelines including forecasting and nominations to various feeder pipelines
  • Monitor monthly batch schedules to meet customer’s injection/delivery date requirements as well as optimize batches for market factors and pricing fluctuations
  • Monitor pipeline positions & outages to maintain inventory levels and maximize commercial opportunities
  • On-Call weekend balancing for various pipelines
  • Keep abreast of open seasons on Canadian pipelines
  • Building and maintaining relationships with customers and industry peers
  • Initiated excel based inventory tracking to generate position reports for trading group and ensure accurate information for hedging program
  • Coordination with traders, schedulers and counterparties to optimize activity to maximize opportunities and profit
  • Supply information for credit reporting process with respect to exposure of batches in transit and volumes on a delivered basis
  • Provide ongoing analytical support to trading, accounting, credit, risk and regulatory groups
  • Contribute to strategic decisions, particularly as related to deriving long term sustainable value for PCIC
Requirements
  • 10+ years of Scheduling experience
  • University degree in accounting, finance, engineering, or similar
  • MBA, CFA, or other professional designation is considered an asset
  • Strong Excel skills. VBA programming is greatly valued
  • Scheduled and balanced downstream pipelines in Canada and US
  • Critical thinker with a strong work ethic and ability to prioritize and complete daily tasks in a fast-paced environment
