Job summary

The Brick is seeking a Health & Safety Specialist to administer policies and provide training and guidance to the Distribution Centre and region.

You will develop and implement preventive health and safety initiatives, coordinate investigations, audits, and reporting, and ensure compliance with provincial regulations.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in or completion of OH&S certificate program; post-secondary education in business, human resources or related field are assets.
• Minimum of 3 years related experience.
• Knowledge of applicable OH&S and WCB policy.
• Motivated, well organized, and able to make sound decisions.
• Strong customer focus, results oriented, and able to work with multiple conflicting priorities and timelines.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and champions health and safety activities and training for the Distribution Centre and region.
• Reviews and analyzes functional safety activities and programs to determine training requirements for safety; prepares a training matrix and schedule to ensure mandatory training needs meet legislative compliance.
• Coordinates incident investigations and provides effective follow-up for corrective actions.
• Promotes a proactive safety strategy and ensures worker safety and cost containment for all claims.
• Assists in managing WCB disability claims and modified return to work programs.
• Ensures adherence to regulated and documented safety standards, including conducting monthly inspections, hazard analysis, and periodic audits as well as identifying and assigning corrective actions for workplace hazards noted during property inspections.
• Monitors and evaluates occupational health and safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable provincial regulations.
• Coordinates meetings and assists with Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC).
• Produces monthly reporting.
