The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking a motivated experienced Municipal Project Engineer to join our Red Deer Municipal Engineering team. Reporting to the Manager of Land Development and Municipal Engineering in Red Deer, this position will be responsible to work on projects for public and private clients, executing municipal water, wastewater, land development, drainage and roadway infrastructure projects. Stages of the project cycle will include feasibility planning, detailed design and construction support services. As a key member of the team, you will deal directly with clients and approval and regulatory agencies.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Preliminary and Detailed Design of earthworks, municipal streets, water distribution systems, sanitary sewage collection, stormwater conveyance and management;
  • Engage and coordinate with clients, contractors, project team members, stakeholders and the public on various projects;
  • Be involved in all stages of a project development, from concept to handover to the client, preparing and coordinating technical reports, drawings, specifications, and contract documents; providing support throughout the tender process; assisting with managing construction project;
  • Computer literate; proficient in Microsoft Office applications and working knowledge of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil3D is an asset;
  • Ability to work to deadlines and see tasks through to completion;
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail;
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • An undergraduate degree in civil engineering from an accredited university
  • 7 plus years of managing and delivering municipal and land development projects
  • Professional Engineer or eligibility for registration in APEGA
  • Experience and formal training in Project Management is an asset
  • Demonstrated success in customer services, client management and proposal/report writing
  • Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and teamwork skills. Technical writing skills needed to support development of technical reports, tools, support documents, and training materials
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Ability to mentor junior staff.
