Job summary

Quinte West is seeking an Equipment Operator to maintain municipal roads and related properties. You will operate heavy trucks, snow plows and multiple equipment, perform safety inspections, and complete daily reports under the Supervisor of Roads.

Ideal candidates bring a valid Ontario DZ license (with Z endorsement) and experience with winter control, road maintenance and equipment log books. This role requires outdoor work and flexibility for after-hours overtime.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Ontario Class D Driver's Licence with Z endorsement.
• Experience operating heavy equipment including sidewalk plow, grader, loader, backhoe, street sweeper or excavator.
• Four winter-control seasons driving experience on plow trucks within last five years.
• Ability to respond to after-hours and emergency calls.
• Light and heavy lifting ability.
• Work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of road standards and safety regulations.
• Ability to read maps and plans.
• WHMIS, safety training, first aid/CPR, traffic control certifications.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy trucks and snow plows and perform safety inspections.
• Maintain equipment logs and daily records for supervisor review.
• Support road maintenance including gravel and cold patching.
• Provide traffic control and maintain signage per plans.
• Assist in winter control and roadside maintenance tasks.
• Keep daily time sheets and report issues to management.
• Ensure compliance with OHSA and Highway Traffic Act regulations.
• Provide courteous public assistance on roads issues.
