Summary:
As a Multi Torch Burner Operator, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to, setting up and operating CNC multi-torch oxy-fuel and laser cutting equipment to process a variety of carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy materials. You will produce precision-cut components in accordance with engineering drawings, production schedules, and customer specifications while maintaining the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety.

What You'll Do:

Set up, operate, and monitor CNC multi-torch oxy-fuel and laser cutting equipment.

Read and interpret fabrication drawings, work orders, nesting layouts, cut lists, and production documentation.

Select appropriate cutting programs, consumables, cutting gases, nozzle/lens configurations, and machine parameters based on material type and thickness.

Verify material type, grade, thickness, heat number, and dimensions before processing.

Load, position, and secure steel plate using overhead cranes and other material handling equipment.

Produce parts that meet dimensional tolerances and quality specifications.

Perform first-off, in-process, and final inspections using appropriate measuring instruments.

Monitor cut quality and make adjustments to optimize productivity, material utilization, and finished part quality.

Remove slag and perform minor finishing operations as required.

Mark, identify, and organize finished parts in accordance with production requirements.

Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, calibration, and minor adjustments on cutting equipment.

Report equipment malfunctions and maintenance requirements promptly.

Coordinate work with supervisors, planners, fitters, welders, crane operators, and other production personnel to support efficient workflow.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Comply with all company policies, safe work procedures, quality requirements, and WorkSafeBC regulations.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, productivity, and material utilization.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager or Foreman.

What You'll Bring:

Education / Experience

  • Experience operating multi-torch burning equipment.
  • Experience operating CNC laser cutting equipment is considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a heavy fabrication or heavy job shop environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and production documentation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of oxy-fuel cutting processes and plate processing techniques.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment safely.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
  • Experience with CNC programming and nesting software considered an asset.
  • Experience operating plasma cutting equipment considered an asset.
  • Overhead crane and forklift certification considered an asset.
  • Experience working within a lean manufacturing environment considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of oxy-fuel and laser cutting processes.
  • Ability to optimize cutting parameters for different materials and thicknesses.
  • Ability to identify and correct cut quality issues such as dross, taper, and dimensional variation.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting skills.
  • Good mathematical and measurement skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet production schedules.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work safely around heat, sparks, moving machinery, and overhead cranes.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and varying

Working Conditions

  • Heavy fabrication and manufacturing environment.
  • Frequent operation of CNC oxy-fuel and laser cutting equipment.
  • Regular use of overhead cranes and material handling equipment.
  • Overtime and shift work may be required to meet production requirements.
